Here it is, my pop-up for lesson 18 in Elizabeths tutorial
Hier is ie dan de pop-up voor les 18 van Elizabeths tutorial.

I have to admit, I did use an example. In "het Elfen flap-uit boek" (the Fairies pull-out book) is a pop-up castle like this one. It's a lot more detailed. I still have to make flags for the towers. I used my PanPastels to color. They are brand new so it was a fun experiment. And I like the result.

Hij is erg mooi geworden maar ik had een voorbeeld. In "het Elfen flap-uit boek" uit 1980 staat een pop-up kasteel zoals deze. Die is natuurlijk gedetaileerder. Ik moet nog vlaggen maken voor op de torens maar dan is ie echt af. Ik heb PanPastels gebruikt om het geheel te kleuren. Ze zijn net nieuw dus het was een beetje uitproberen en experimenteren. Ik ben blij met het resultaat.

Altered Book Lesson 15 Decorative edges

A day earlier than promised: My work for lesson 15; Decoratieve Edges from the turorial at Elizabeth's blog.
It took me a little longer because I wanted to use home made buttons. I saw the tutorial on Jenny's blog. It's real fun but it took me longer to make them than I expected.

Het koste me wat meer tijd omdat ik mijn zelfgemaakte knopen wilde gebruiken. Ik zag de turorial op Jenny's blog. Het is erg leuk om te doen maar koste me meer tijd dan ik had verwacht.

Altered book lesson 13 and 16 and progres update

Hoi,

How are you all doing? I've had super hectic week. I had to work a lot and there was the pressure of finishing my last pages of Elizabeth's Altered Book turorial.
Hoe gaat het met jullie? Ik heb een super hectische week gehad, veel gewerkt en dan nog de druk om mijn laatste pagina's van Elizabeth's Altered Book lessen af te maken.

So here are lesson 13; Windows and Doors. And again I didn't follow the instructions quite right..instead of a window/door in a page between pages I've made this "pop-up" door. The door opens when you pull the wooden leaf to the right.
Dus hier is les 13; Windows and Doors. Ik moet zeggen dat ik weer niet helemaal heb gedaan wat de opdracht was; een raam/deur in een pagina tussen twee pagina's. Ik heb deze deur gemaakt die opengaat als je het houten blad naar rechts trekt.


Lesson 13 - Les 13

I love the result but I might make an attempt on the original instruction.
Ik ben super blij met het eindresultaat maar misschien doe ik nog wel een poging met de originele instructies.
I made this lesson together with lesson 16; Fabric. I just love how my fairy looks. Do you see she has the key to the lock on the door?1
Ik heb les 13 samen met les 16; fabric (stof) gemaakt. Ja dat is het voordeel van achter lopen natuurlijk :). Ik ben helemaal gelukkig met hoe het elfje eruitziet. Zie je dat zij de sleutel van het slot op de deur vast heeft?!



Lesson 16 - Les 16

Since I'm working on making the last lessons for the turorial I'm half way lesson 15; Decorative Edges and lesson 18; Image transfers and a pop-up. I'm making a super fantastic pop-up if it will be working the way I want it too!!
I'll be posting these two lesson on sunday.

Omdat ik de lessen van de tutorial af wil ronden ben ik ook halverwege les 15; Decorative Edges en les 18; Image transfers and a pop-up. Ik ben bezig met een super gave pop-up, zolang het gaat werken als ik wil!
Ik zal deze twee lessen zondag op de blog zetten.

So now I'm only missing Lesson 14: Zippers and Lesson 17: Polymer Clay. But now I'm thinking about it... I've used Fimo clay in lesson 11:

Maar nu zat ik me net te bedenken dat ik fimo klei al heb gebruikt in les 11:


The bottles on the table and 4 of the bottles in the cubboard are made from fimo clay.
De flessen op tafel en 4 van de flessen in de kast zijn gemaakt van fimoklei.

So I guess the only lesson I still have to start and finish is lesson 14. I've been looking for a zipper today but couldn't find one at the stores nearby. So I don't think I will be able too finish that lesson before Elizabeth makes a post about al the students homework :(. Still 17 lessons out of the 18, I think I did a good job :).

Dus volgens mij komt het er op neer dat ik alleen nog les 14 moet maken. Ik ben vandaag op zoek geweest naar een rits maar kon er geen vinden bij mij op het winkelcentrum. Ik denk dan ook niet dat ik deze les op tijd klaar krijg voor het blogbericht op elizabeth's blog over het huiswerk van alle studenten. Maar goed 17 van de 18 lessen daar ben ik toch best trots op!

AB lesson 8 UPDATE

While Elizabeth's 2 weekly lessons has finished and I'm 6 lessons late...(there are 19 lessons). Here's an update on lesson 8.
I've finally completed my color wheel. I was set on only using colors out of pictures (in magazines) that's why it took sooooo long, getting the color right isn't easy AND it didn't work for the dark purple, so I made that one my self.
First time I thought the pages where ready, they just didn't feel right. I left them a couple of days because I'm also working on lesson 13 and 15. So today I was wondering my magazines for some new images and there it was, the piece that was missing from my colorwheel. Its in the center now and with a few more adjustments ... I'm totally happy!!
 
Terwijl Elizabeth's tutorial op zijn eind loopt, loop ik 6 lessen achter. (van de 19 dus dat best een boel). Maar hier is de beloofde update voor les 8. Ik heb mijn kleurenwiel eindelijk af. Ik wilde eigenlijk alleen kleuren uit foto's  gebruiken, dat is waarom het zo lang duurde want de goede kleur vinden is erg lastig. Het is dan ook niet helemaal gelukt want de donker paarse kleur heb ik zelf gemaakt.

Toen het kleurenwiel af was, was ik toch niet helemaal tevreden over de pagina's dus heb ik het een tijdje laten liggen aangezien ik ook bezig ben met les 13 en 15. Maar vandaag was ik weer op zoek naar wat nieuwe plaatjes en toen vond ik zomaar ineens HET missende onderdeel voor mijn kleurenwiel. Dat zit nu in het midden en met nog een paar veranderingen op de pagina's zelf is les 8 nu echt af!

Altered book lesson 12

Hi there,

It's been a while I'm sooooo sorry. I've worked and worked and worked. Early days and that's not a good thing for me. (yeah waking up at 5.00 am just isn't my thing)
So a couple of things first:
My homework for Lesson 12, folded pages. I didn't really follow instructions here. I really liked the spinning cirkle though so I went for an alternative:

It has 6 funny pictures inside. I'm really happy with the end result :)

Altered book lesson 11 - Altered book les 11

Hello,
Hallo,

How are you all doing? Nice weather and good spirits?? Wel we haven't have good weather, days on end with rain, rain and more rain. Today will be a nice day and the weatherman said next week will be one with summer weather (remind you dutch summer weather so there still may be some rain).
Throughout last weeks of rain, every time my spirit went down hill I've been crafting. And up the spirtit went :). Ive bought a great book: Artist's Journal Workshop, creating your life in words and pictures written by Cathy Johnson. It's a really practical book with lots of examples, ideas and tips.
I love it!
I've also started another project: to draw a face every day. I haven't draw, sketched, painted faces since highschool which is a long long time ago :). I've been collecting faces from magazines and folders to inprove my skill. Haven't used them jet. Maybe I will show the whole sketchbook in a video when it's finished.
Oh and of course I've been working in my altered book. This two weeks lesson was about pockets.
Elizabeth showed lots and lots of examples on her blog and it was so much fun to make some!

The one on the right is kind of a secret pocket.

I've prepared the left page for another page with secret pockets. I've the idea just have to figure out how to make it :)
De linkerpagina is geprepareerd voor een pagina met verborgen pockets. Het idee zit in m'n hoofd maar ik moet nog even uitzoeken hoe ik het ga maken.

And the one I'm sooooo proud of. It worked out so well. :)  :)  :)  :)
En degene waar ik super trots op ben. Gewoon omdat hij helemaal gelukt is. :)  :)  :)  :)

Update Altered book lesson 9 - Uptdate Altered book les 9

Hey there,

Here is the promised update on backgrounds. The Shaving Cream Backgrounds.

I've used her technique combined with Week TWENTY THREE - More marbling techniques on http://janfoxdesigns-52playdates.blogspot.nl/.

 The next badge I made with a little bit more water:

For the perfect consitancy you just have too practice. Same for the paper you want too use. printerpaper turned out too thin for me. Aquarel paper works great but is a bit thick so if your foame isn't spread equelly there can be parts missing. The paper which worked best for me was childerens drawing paper from the HEMA. (a dutch store).
I've made a lot more but it's a bit too much too show here. :) One sheet will be used in lesson 11: Pockets.

Altered book lesson 10- Altered book les 10

Woh did these two weeks go fast!! I've created some fun pages, althought not all about the theme for this weeks lesson: Lesson 10: Magazine images and frames. Made possible by Elizabeth on her blog!!
I didn't have any idea what to do with the magazine images. I just didn't get inspired... boehoe. 
Yesterday my order with a lot of art supply finally arrived!! I was sooo happy :)
Deze afgelopen twee weken zijn echt voorbij gevlogen. Ik heb een paar mooie/leuke pagina's gemaakt hoewel ze niet allemaal over het thema van deze week gaan. Les 10 van Elizabeth's workshop gaat over Magazine plaatjes en randen. Ik heb niets met het thema magazine plaatjes gedaan want ik had gewoon geen inspiratie.... boehoe.
Gister kwam eindelijk mijn pakket binnen met inkten, verven etc dat ik had besteld. Plus nog een ander pakketje wat ik donderdag had besteld, Oh ik wordt daar toch zo blij van......

All good stuff!!!!
Allemaal leuke spulletjes!!

Two weeks ealier I recieved a pakket full of masking/washi tape, al nice collors!! so I used these for my first page about frames:
Twee weken terug ontving een pakketje vol masking/washi tape, allemaal mooie kleurtjes!! Deze heb ik dan ook voor mijn eerste pagina over randen gebruikt:

My second page is really really easy. While I was doubting about what to make My eye spoted the wallpaper with the nice flowers. I looked like a flower framed by another sooo that's the first and then I made al little face in the flower.
De tweede pagina was eigenlijk wel zo super simpel! Terwijl ik aan het dubben was over wat ik nog meer zou maken, viel mijn ook op een rol behang met geweldige bloemen erop. De ene bloem leek wel omrand door een andere bloem, een gezichtje in het midden en voila, klaar.

Last but not least I made a dubble set which didn't follow the theme. I found the quote in the Dutch magazine FLOW.
Laatste voor vandaag is deze dubbele pagina die geen thema volgt. De quite heb ik in de FLOW gezien.

Altered book lesson 9 - Altered book les 9

For this weeks lesson we were able to make a mess on our worktables and kitchen dressers; creating backgrounds! Elizabeth suggested a lot of materials and the different ways to use them. I don't have any alcohol inks so that limited my options a little bit. Only a little bit.
Because I really liked the result of the Bubble background I tried that one first. The result wasn't anywhere near Elizabeth's result. I think I din't use enough ink.
But still I managed to make some background with the liquid.

Om de opdrachten voor deze weeks les: Het maken van achtergronden, mochten we een enorme puinhoop van onze werktafels en aanrechten maken. Elizabeth gaf een groot aantal voorbeelden met veel verschillende materialen. Ik heb geen alcohol inkt dus die kon ik niet maken maar de keuze bleef enorm.
Omdat ik het resultaat van de bellen achtergond zo mooi vind heb ik die eerst geprobeerd. Helaas lukte het totaal niet. Ik denk dat ik te weinig inkt heb gebruikt. Maar goed zonde om weg te gooien dus ik heb toch nog wat aardigs weten te fabriceren:

The next one I've tried was the cling wrap and acrylic background. Had some real fun and the results are awsome:
De volgende methode was met huishoudfolie en acryl verf. Erg leuk om te doen en geweldig eindresultaat:

In the top one I added some bronzcolored acrylic paint, in the other I added some golden perfect pearls from ranger.
In de bovenste heb ik bronskleurige acrylverf gebruikt in de onderste wat gouden perfect pearls van ranger.

Next backgrounds are based on the Napkin, Glazes, and Rubber Stamp Background
Althought I didn't use any....I used my tissuepaper. I received a pakket full of different colors a week ago and couldn't wait to use it. I made some pompons and two backgrounds:

De volgende achtergronden zijn gebaseerd op de servet, glazes en stempel achtergond. Ik heb geen van deze gebruikt, maar mijn tissuepapier dat een paar weken terug binnengekomen was. Ik heb deze achtergronden gemaakt en wat pompons. Leuk!!

I hadn't ever heard of the technique for the Oil Pastel and Gesso Background and it was wonderfull. I really like how the oilpastel seems to desolve. 
Ik had nog nooit gehoord van de techniek met olie pastels en gesso achtergrond maar het was geweldig. Ik vond het erg leuk om te zien hoe de oliepastel lijkt op te lossen.

Then there was the Grunge background (acrylic paint and credit card), I've used this before. So I altered it a bit. I put on the paint with a brayer and because I found the colors a bit too dark I've used a creditcard dipped in Gesso to "scrap" some paint of. It really worked great.
I immediately used the background but you can still see some of it.
Daarna nog de "Grunge" achtergrond gemaakt (met acryl verf en een credit card), ik heb dit al eens eerder gebruikt en de techniek ietswat aan gepast. Ik heb een brayer gebruitk om de kleuren aan te brengen en daarna een creditcard gedipt in geesso gebruikt om de verf ietswat weg te schrapen en de kleuren wat lichter te krijgen. Het werkte erg goed en hoewel ik de achtergrond al heb gebruikt kun je toch nog wel zien wat het resultaat is.

I still want to try out the Shaving Cream Backgrounds, I've seen some great projects on youtube. They use it to get a marble effect. I'm wainting for a packet to arrive with some lovely acrylic inks.

Nu wil ik alleen de scheerschuim achtergrond nog uitproberen. Ik heb een paar geweldige projecten gezien op youtube waar ze het gebruikten om een marble effect te creeeren. Ik wacht nog op een bestelling waarin een paar mooie acryl inkten in zitten.

Altered book lesson 8 - Altered book les 8

So another update on Elizabeth's turorial Lesson 8 was all about Color.... Jippie. I like :)
First we had to make a color wheel, mine isn't quite finished yet. I have to scramble a few more magazines together too finish it but here is what I have so far:
Zo een nieuwe update voor Elizabeth's tutorial Les 8, alles over Kleur... joepie. Leuk :)
Eerst moesten we een kleuren cirkel maken. De mijne is nog niet helemaal af, ik moet nog wat tijdschriften bijelkaar zien te rapen, maar dit is wat ik tot nu toe heb:

We also had to make some backgrounds using : "wet sgraffito".  (paint page, let dry, paint with other color and scrape away paint) Well I didn't do a background. My page was just too inspirational. There was a lovely boat/ship on it and I just had too use it. So I used my new delusional spray inkt with gesso for the first layer:
Als tweede werd er gevraagd om achtergronden te maken met de techniek: "wet sgraffito".  (papier verven, laten drogen, opnieuwe verven met een andere kleur en dan verf wegschrapen)
Ik heb alleen geen achtergronden gemaakt omdat ik de pagina te mooi en inspirerend vond. Het zeilschip vind ik prachtig en wilde ik graag behouden. De 1ste verflaag bestaat uit delusional spray inkts vermengd met gesso.

Gesso and dylusions

I covered the boat/ship with some Gel medium so no paint would stick too it, let it dry and used acrylic paint, a bit of modelingpaste for the second layer. For creating weaves I've used a plastic knife and for the air I've used a homemade pencil thing made from a branch.
Ik heb het zeilschip bedekt met Gel medium zodat ik eventuele nieuwe verf er makkelijker af kon halen. Nadat het geheel gedroogd was heb ik acryl verf met een beetje modelingpasta gebruikt voor de tweede laag. De golven heb ik "gekrast" met een plastic wegwerp mes, de lucht met een zelfgemaakt pennetje van een takje.

Oh and the pinquins are from my still growing pile of interesting images. I've use a fine black pencil to redraw some lines on the boat/ship soo it shows a bit more.
I'm soooooo pleased with the end result. :)
Oh en de pinguins komen uit mijn groeiende stapel met interessante/ leuke plaatjes. Het zeilschip heb ik met een zwart pennetje wat opgehaald zodat het beter zichtbaar werd.
Ik ben zoooo blij met het eindresultaat :)

Altered book lesson 7 - Altered book les 7

Hello there, /  Hallo daar,

So here it is a very very late update for lesson 7. We're at lesson 9 at the moment so its bad ;).
But I have a very very good reason to be late, I was on vacation. We went to the Cote d'Azur and had a blast (well not the first too days, its just rained like it would never ever stop, which made the swimmingpool water temperature drop but the last day of our stay over there it was 20 C again and lovely too puddle in).
Soo more on that later, back to lesson 7 of Elizabeth's great turorial about: Elements of Design.
Well I have to say I really didn't have any inspiration. Thats bad, normally I just gona work on something and somehow it turns out great. Not this time. There is just no consistancy in the page. It's just some stuff put togetter and I'm NOT gona show it.
So there I was looking out the window into the rain too the glistering swimmingpool in France.....and there it was: the Idea. Or actually a memory of a rainy day on a sketch tour I took a few years ago for the drawingclasses from and with my University. To draw without looking too your drawing and without taking your pen of the paper.
So thats what I did. One line became a form and a shape and it made space(s):

Zo hier is een erg erg late update voor les 7. Aangezien we nu het "huiswerk" voor les 9 dienen te maken is het echt erg. Maar ik had een goede reden om laat te zijn, want we waren op vakantie! Wiehoe, naar de Cote d'Azur en het was heerlijk. (nou ja na de 2 dagen vreselijke regen, terwijl het in NL 28 graden was grmbl grmbl.) Maar meer daarover later, terug naar les 7 van Elizabeth's geweldige turorial over: Elements of Design.
Nou ik moet zeggen, ik had geen maar dan ook helemaal geen inspiratie. Normaal gesproken begin ik gewoon en op de een of andere manier komt er dan iets goeds te voorschijn maar dit keer niet. Er was geen samenhang op de pagina en ik ga hem dus ook NIET laten zien.
Dus daar zat ik dan voor het raam te kijken hoe de regen in het zwembad viel in Frankrijk.... en ja hoor Idee-tje, nou jaar meer een herinnering aan een regenachtige dag tijdens een schetsexcursie van een paar jaar terug met de Universiteit. Tekenen zonder naar je papier te kijken en zonder je pen van het papier te halen.
Dus dat heb ik gedaan. 1 lijn wordt een vorm, een figuur en het creeerd ruimtes:


I just love the drawing. It's soo funny too see how it turned out. I have to say it's quite good, only one eye is totally of. Compered too some of the drawings of the sketch tour, this one is a bink!! :)
It really is a great excercise; it teaches you a lot of things, like proportion and the difference of how you think your drawing and the real deal, but I have to say practise does help. But most of all its fun. If you don't have a lot of time or waiting for someone or just don't have inspiration, draw the people around you. (this he came out of a magazine).
Ik ben erg tevreden over het eindresultaat van de tekening. Hij is eigenlijk best goed gelukt, er is maar een oog dat totaal fout zit. Vergeleken met somminge tekeningen van de schetsexcursie, dan is dit een knappe kerel :).  Het is ook een goede oefening, je kunt er veel van leren. En daarbij is het een leuke tijdsbesteding als je weinig tijd hebt, op iemand zit te wachten of zelf verder geen inspiratie hebt, teken de mensen om je heen. Of uit een magazine zoals deze man.

So after this one I made some more. The ones with the collored borders are the ones I cheated on, I looked a couple of times... but still fun:
Ik heb er meer gemaakt. Bij degenen met een gekleurde rand heb ik gespiekt, ik heb een paar keer naar m'n papier gekeken...maar goed, ik vind ze leuk:

Altered book lesson 6 - Altered book les 6

I've been quit busy last week with work and preparations for my altered book lessons.
I had planned to put all the design element into one page, but it just didn't work out that way.
Deze week was erg druk met werk en het voorbereiden en maken van de altered book lessen.
Ik wilde eigenlijk alle design elementen in 1 pagina verwerken, maar zo kwam het niet uit.

1st one: rhythm or pattern: / 1ste: ritme of patroon

I've used a homemade stamp with stazon and memento inkpads
Gemaakt met zelfgemaakte stempel en stazon en memento inktkussens.

2nd: rhythm and/or repetition: / 2e: ritme en/of herhaling:

Zelfgemaakte stempel met stazon en memento inktkussens. (en nu regent het ook. Ik ben erg blij met mijn gezellige studeerkamer op zolder.)

3th one: Contrast:  /   3e contrast:

I've used Hero arts stamps: large open en closed flower with black embossing powder.
Ik heb stempels van Hero arts gebruikt (large open en closed flower) met zwart embossing poeder.

And last: Dominance with a bit of repetition:  /  De laatste: dominantie en herhaling.


I've used arylic paint, a hart mask I made myself, some stamps,old paper left overs and a white pen..
The saying is in dutch meaning: "Love doesn't cost anything to get, but is unaffordable if you have it. (now I think about it, it could also be; unaffordable if you don't have it) Ah well : CHERISH your loved ones!!
Ik heb acylverf gebruikt, een zelfgemaakt hart masker, een paar stempels, wat papier restjes en een witte pen.

Alterd Book lesson 4 - "boek aanpassen" les 4

I'm following this great tutorial at Elizabeth's blog. This lessons theme was gesso and glue.
There were 6 "homework" tasks:

Ik volg de geweldige turorial op Elizabeth's blog. Het thema van deze les is Gesso en Glue.
Er waren 6 "huiswerk" taken:

1.) Create at least three double glued pages using different glues of your choice. I suggest glue stick, white glue, gel medium, and possibly Mod Podge. Document how each of these glues behaved when you worked with them.
1.) Creëer tenminst 3 dubbele verlijmde pagina's waarbij je verschillende soorten lijm gebruikt. Ik suggereer: lijmstick, witte lijm, gel medium en misschien Mod Podge. Documenteer hoe elke van deze lijmen zich gedragen terwijl je er mee werkt.

2.) Create one double glued page using gesso. Document how it behaved when you worked with it.
2.) Maak een dubbel gelijmde pagina met Gesso. Documenteer hoe het werkt.

3.) I suggest using tags made from your choice of materials to document each of the above adhesives.
3.) Ik stel voor om tags te maken waar je de keuze van de lijm en gedragingen op kunt documenteren.

The tags are collored with Ranger DistressInk. For the ones with the embossing I used the vines backgrouned stamp from HeroArts.
I used white ribbon which I stamped with versamark on HeroArts vines. (versamark is used for embossing) then I collored the ribbon with Ranger DistressInk.
De tags heb ik gekleurd met Ranger DistressInk. Voor degene die ik embossed heb, heb ik de achterond stempel Vines van HeroArts gebruikt. Verder heb ik wit lint gebruikt dat ik met VersaMark op de stempel Vines van HeroArts heb bedrukt. Daarna heb ik het lint gekleurd met Ranger DistressInk.

4.) Create a double page spread using gesso as both the background AND the glue to which you will add your page elements and embellishments.

5.) Find at least one way to use white glue as a major ingredient in a technique for a page you will either add to your AB, or on a page that is already in your AB.

5.) Probeer op z'n minst 1 manier om witte lijm als belangrijkste ingediënt in een techniek te gebruiken. Maak een pagina in je boek of een losse pagina die je toe kunt voegen.

For the butterfly I've used Caran D'Aches neocolor II, watersoluble. The flowers is colored with aquarell. This white glue is storaged in a container, so to use it for drawing I made this "tube"thingie :)
Voor de vlinder heb ik Caran D'Aches Neocolor II, watersuluble gebruikt. De bloem is geverfd met aquarel. Omdat de witte lijm in een potje zit moest ik iets verzinnen om ermee te kunnen tekenen. Dit spuitzak achtige gevalletje was het resultaat. 

Transparant, watersoluble gleu. It did run a bit after apply-ing. And when I colored it, it did dissolve in some sticky mess. I've put these two in my book but it's still a bit sticky. So I won't use it again.
Transparant in water oplosbare lijm van de AH. Nadat ik het op papier had aangebracht liep het nog wat uit. Tijdens het verven werd het weer zacht, het loste op tot een plakkig rotzooitje. Na 5 dagen is de bovenste nog steeds een beetje plakkering.
