City trip Gent

Sunday I visited Gent in Begium with my parents. I didn't know it was such a beautiful city. There was so much to see that one afternoon wasn't enough. I definitely will visit again, but a bit longer maybe a long weekend ?!

quick update - snelle update

Hi,

Just to say I'm still here but there is a lot of not so nice things going on in my life.
My man is going to loose his job, my graduation isnt progressing at all and for the last couple of days my arm is trying to seperate itself from the rest of my body at the shoulder. The physiotherapist said it was some after pain but I'm affraid it's tendinitis or bursitis.
I'll be blogging next week!

Hoi,

Altered book trial - uitprobeer Altered book

As I've mentioned in a previous post. I've entered the tutorial from Elizabeth. But there's "only" 1 new lesson every two weeks. And well on the internet there's so much nice stuff to find to do with alterd books that I just couldn't wait to start, therefore I've started with a trial altered book. Just to see how different techniques work etc.

Gewoon kijken hoe verschillende technieken werken etc.

I've used stamps Spiral Flowers from Darkroom Door, clear embossing powder and Distress ink:aged mahogany. The pictures made it pink but it is more of a cherry collor.

Background made with acrylic paint, and the drawing with acrylic ink.

Altered Book extra

OK so I did forget to tell you all I have to pick a theme for my book. Sigh. That's hard. I like nature and landscapes, urban design and architecture and so much more. I'm still thinking maybe: all earth's wonders? I can put everything interesting in that one. Than there's another thing, I'm not a magazine type of girl. I don't read them (well some for my profession) and I don't find them interesting enough to buy(I find them quite expensive too), well except for the FLOW. It's a magazine based on 4 theme's: Feel connected, live mindfully, spoil yourself and Simplify your life. And it's made of different types of paper and there are nice goodies in every edition. But too end this story I think I have to draw, sketch and paint most of the pages myself ( oh the horror (: (:   )
Oh I'm just thinking of it now, we have a free magazine with the creditcard company, it's called Villa d'Arte. We have a shelf full of them, I put them away and never read them again so I think I will be tearing them apart Joy!

Alterd Book - "boek aanpassen"

There are a lot of great blogs to follow and I do follow a lot them. Most of them are in my favourites list so I don't get to much mail ;). One blog I'm following is the blog of Elizabeth and Bleubeard. And she is publishing a great tutorial on altered books. Which I'm joining so here are the preparations for the second lesson.

I use an old dictionary, I have torn out one third of the pages and already applied gesso on 2 pages.

Close up, it's really easy to see where I've torn out the pages.

Part of the tutorial is to use what you have and don't go and buy stuff, but I didn't have a choise. I didn't have any Gesso, Gel medium and foambrusches. But than standing in the artsupply shop... oh like a kid in a candystore. I did restrain myself and didn't buy anything else. Well that's not entirely true, Elizabeth ducted to put all the Alterd Book stuff (like the book, torn out pages, images etc you want to use) in a box, I didn't have that either so I went to Ikea. Yay :)

The shelf used to be my messy shelf, I had to do some seriously cleaning and cleaning-up before it looked like this.
